WRITER’S NOTE
Every now and then there is a revolution in the entertainment industry that captures the attention of a world audience. The television production of ‘Glee’ in America certainly had this power. We fell in love with the characters and a surge in Glee clubs around the world began. The power of music to tell a story and the conflict that can exist between students and teachers was the starting point from which this show was birthed. The concept was to explore the high school world of a group of teenagers before they leave for their Summer Break.
A lot of the struggles that exist within a high school environment are not dissimilar to the conflicts we face in our everyday lives. We can all identify with misfits and bullies, the haves and the have nots, and the fact that every now and then people surprise you. I wanted to create a world of endearing characters that we can relate to and laugh with as they try to find their place in a sometimes chaotic world. Through the power of music, these talented teens disrupt the pecking order at Mercy High and discover that friendship can be found in the most unexpected places.
I feel abundantly blessed to be working in a place that has enabled me to utilise my love for music and script-writing and, despite the challenges that this huge undertaking has presented, I have loved every moment. I am so grateful to the entire cast of ‘Gleeks’ who have helped me bring this production to the stage and create a performance that is truly memorable.
