DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Selecting a production is always a challenging task. I waded my way through countless scripts and promotional CD’s, waiting for something to jump off the page and grab my creative attention. Many late nights and creative discussions yielded few results. I was searching for a strong story with dynamic and engaging music that focused on teenagers. It was nearing the end of the year and time was running out. In the monotony of an ordinary day, a miracle happened. I sat at my computer, perusing the content of my inbox, and discovered the answer to our creative dilemma; Disney announced that ‘Camp Rock’ had been adapted for the stage and the search was over. It was here that the journey really began.
I have loved creating a work about passionate teenagers who are willing to stand up, stand out and fight for what they believe in. As the Rockers fight to save the camp they love, fuelled by a common passion, music, I can’t help but think about the parallels the story has to this generation. Our incredible young people have the influence and the resources to change their world. My prayer is that the cast, crew and audience leave this performance feeling inspired to change their world and not let any obstacles stand in the way of reaching their dreams.
