DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Like most children I was often swept away by the magic of a fairy tale and the story of Beauty and the Beast was certainly a magical and memorable one for me. With such fond memories of the Disney film and the traditional storybooks, it is no surprise that I kept coming back to this title when searching for the perfect fit for this year’s production. With the team assembled and inspired, we set to work to bring this classic fairy tale to life!
Directing the show this year has been a fun, rewarding, incredibly challenging and somewhat magical experience for me. I have loved delving into the moral message of this show and, as a child, and even still as an adult, I am inspired by the character of Belle; a girl who is not afraid to stand out from the crowd, a girl who is OK with being ‘different’ and a girl who looks past the outward appearance and assesses people based on their heart and their character…I feel we can learn a lot from this strong storybook character. I have also been drawn to this story because of the way it depicts the transformative power of love; there isn’t a more powerful or beautiful message in all the world. We hope you enjoy this story as we venture back to once upon a time…
